Whenever possible, I tried connecting my research to communities I am close to for whom the topic being discussed is important. A major example of this was in Paper 2, where I analyzed the benefits and drawbacks of emerging driverless car technology. The south Florida community I live in is one built around the usage of cars, and it is difficult for people who do not drive (such as myself) to move around. The discussion around driverless cars is relevant to this community because advocates of their development claim that one of its benefits would be improving mobility for people who do not drive. When entering this discussion I tried to bring in my perspective as someone who does not drive living in a carcentric town, particularly that while to me technological advancement itself has great potential, its current implementation in driverless cars would be a band-aid solution that leaves more fundamental problems unaddressed.
